Abstract
Through my quest to explore the metaphysical, emotional, creative, and existential connections between and in people and nature, I encountered profound manifestations in ways of being. In the realm where generational existential inquiries converge, where one seeks solace in the embrace of the natural world and strives for wholeness, I embarked on a quest for unconventional paths that have, in their own way, unraveled distinctive perspectives and forged a space for completeness in their existence. I marveled at those whose lives intertwined with direct or indirect ecological quests with urban existence, and I sought to discover where these divergent paths might intersect with my own.
My own journey shifted to ecological consciousness through SMI's courses involving field trips, reflections, and creative practice. A reposition like this revealed to me that change is possible at any age. Gradual changes in perception, cognition, and mindset made room for an increased understanding of our connection with the environment. Mindful and curious about these shifts, and interested in learning about unconventional pathways, I interviewed people of different pursuits, such as chefs, artists, trekkers, wildlife filmmakers, businesspersons, etc. Through these conversations, I've delved into experiential and philosophical questions about ecological consciousness and how they make sense of the world.
Communicating these diverse perspectives (multidisciplinary and multicultural approaches) play a crucial role in foregrounding the agency and vitality of nature and the multifaceted relationships we share in and with nature. This is accomplished through a carefully crafted book design. Through dialogue, I sought to compile tacit knowledge and moments of life-altering shifts that unified our existence and connection to nature. Interviews are interwoven with personal ponderings, and thought-provoking questions of a 25-year-old individual like me. The book captures the experiential aspects of reconnecting with the natural environment and transports the reader to a place inward and outward where ecological consciousness is fostered.
